Yoani Sánchez, Cuban Blogger, Brutally Beaten and Detained

I am bewildered at the audacious actions of the Cuban government this past week. This is an eye-opening article for those who might believe that human rights violations are a rare occurrence in Cuba. Adding salt to the wound, the beating by Cuban officials occurred in broad daylight on her way to a march for peace.

Yoani is one of the more famous dissidents-- I wonder how many of these violations don't make it to the front of the news because they occurred to lesser known activists.

The doctors who examined her say there was no evidence of her having been beaten:

Walter,

You sir are much too predictable. But your shame seems to have no bounds as your futile attempt to try to spin this all too common reprehensible and unconscionable conduct by the Cuban Government and its repressive apparatus against Cuban civil society suggests. You well know that this is how the Cuban Government and its repressive apparatus has conducted business for 50 plus years. I can't help but wonder if much like the great Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoyevsky who got paid for the written word (except that his word has and will be continued to be enjoyed by countless generations of readers myself included) you get paid by the swarthy Cuban Government for every word you write in their defense, apology, etc. I know we're in difficult economic times but your spinning here is a new low.
